The Classic Treatise On Card Manipulation

"The Expert at the Card Table is the most famous, carefully studied book ever published on the art of manipulating cards at gaming tables." -from the Foreword by Martin Gardner

For almost a centuury, this book has been considered indispensable to attaining the highest level of card mastery. In it, S.W. Erdnase, a supreme master of card manipulation, teaches card enthusiasts how to perform the dazzling tricks and sleights-many of them how own creations-that made him famous.

The first section of the book deals with card table artifice, or, to put it more bluntly, cheating at cards. Step by step, Mr. Erdnase demonstrates his own systems of false shuffling, false riffling anc cutting, dealing from the bottom and such slick moves as palming cards, "skinning the hand," even three-card monte.

The second section covers legerdemain: the art of forcing a card, one- and two-hand transformations, the devious "slide" and more. Card handlers will love Erdnase's selection of dazzling card tricks, including The Acrobatic Jacks, The Exclusive Coterie, The Divining Rod, The Invisible Flight, a Mind Reading Tick and many others.

In an informative foreword to this edition, Martin Gardner relates the unhappy details of the author's personal life, and recounts the history of this famous book, whose methods, Mr. Gardner asserts, "are as useful today by magicians and card hustlers as they were in 1902. This book is still the bible of card 'mechanics,' and as much a delight to read as it was in the early years of this century."

Paperbound, 144 5 3/8" by 8 1/2" pages, 101 illustrations.

Recommended only for the historic value and thinking of Erdnase.

Some call it the "Card Mans Bible" which can be debated for days. i don't think this is the "bible" of card magic, it teaches old gambling moves and are a foundation for a lot of moves invented or worked upon today.

the instructions are hard to follow at times, and the pictures don't help much either, it's really just trial and error.

while some of the moves are useful to the "magician" not all of them were created for the magician in mind, some of the handling is awkward and unpractical for a magic performance.

i do recommend everyone takes a look at this though as it is a solid foundation for 'card magic'

The card magician's bible... what else can be said about it.
I don't have the book, but have Genii magazine's free ebook of the original book by J.W. Erdnase.
Its phenomenal. A must for all those who want to do good card magic. This book teaches all the fundamentals and the advancements of card magic. I believe a book like this deserves to be gone through and practiced thoroughly. Trust me, it will yield results.

Wow, when I got the book and saw how thin it was I kinda thought that there wasn't going to be a hell of a lot in there but for such a thin book it is packed with a lot of info. First off its based on teaching sleights which is great, they don't just teach one method, they tech one sleight then the have many methods for it, they teach how to do the sleights with the bottom card(s) top card(s) and any way possible that the sleight can be different. So for all the space that takes up in such a small book you may think that it doesn't have a lot of sleights in it... wrong, its full of plenty helpful sleights of all levels but has more difficult ones then Royal Road so I would recommend royal road to card magic to a beginner before this one but I still think this is a must have.

The effects that are featured in there lack in a lot of things so don't buy the book if your just wanting effects and haven't got any imagination to come up with your own.

All levels pretty much and the detail.
Cons
The effects mainly, but I bought it for sleights anyway which is the highlight.

Very glad I bought this book. You should too.
It teaches some very interesting things, and you can't go wrong with a $9 book. Very good illustrations, so detailed.

Teaches the mechanics of many moves and utility moves. Worth it.

Pros
All over difficulty, will suit anyone. Very useful in card magic, teaches basics and more. Good for gamblers and card workers.
Cons
Language is old, sometime hard to understand. Book is thin, so if you have cards in both hands sometimes its own weight will cause it to shut.
